Breaking Through Learning Space Limitations: Allowing People and Context to Drive Space Utilization

Several emerging technologies are enabling educators to take conversations about new learning spaces beyond discussion of flexible furniture and room configuration, even beyond the traditional classroom. These technologies include highly intuitive display sharing that decentralizes the classroom and enables better group work andmore natural flow of ideas, real-time student engagement tools that encourage participation in large-enrollment classes, and iBeacons and other location-aware technologies allowing institutions to build customized digital experiences and peerlearning opportunities as a virtual layer across campus spaces. This presentation will share results from early pilots and experiments conducted at Penn State.
